Researcher position on Large Language Model for Translation
The candidate will participate in the Ilenia project whose objective is the development of language technologies, resources and tools for Basque. The results of the project will place Basque language in a position to allow the use of AI applications also in that language.
The position is aimed to explore the translation capabilities of public large language models, such as LLAMA or the multilingual model under development in the Ilenia project itself. To this end, different options for adapting the foundational models to the translation task will be studied. The candidate will perform the following tasks, among others:
- creation and/or compilation of data necessary for the finetuning of LLM
- finetuning of LLM for translation between English-Basque and Spanish-Basque
- Evaluation of the translations obtained
The candidate should preferably have a bachelor's degree in computer engineering or similar, and a master's degree preferably related to natural language processing. We are looking for passionate people about language technologies and a strong background in computer science and related fields.
The applicants must demonstrate excellent communication skills in English. Knowledge of Basque will be also valued.
